Josef kickstarts experimental GenAI Lab in NYC with Orrick & Gunderson Dettmer

Okay, that was iconic. Recently, Josef joined legal innovation giants Orrick and Gunderson Dettmer in Manhattan, New York City to kick off a groundbreaking, new GenAI Lab event series.
Hosted during New York’s annual Legalweek, General Counsel, Partners, Associates, and Legal Ops professionals from the finance, health, and tech industries came together to
- Get their hands on the latest generative AI legal technology,
- Gain unique insights from industry leaders on building effective GenAI tools, and
- Collaborate in exclusive workshops with providers from across the industry.
The mood was truly electric, with Orrick’s Chief Innovation Officer Wendy Butler Curtis noting the “energy and buzz exceeded our expectations! It showed how hungry our industry is to come together to imagine the future.”
“We’re more valuable as a community”
From the warm reception, it’s clear that hands-on, collaborative events are key to equipping legal professionals for an increasingly automated future.
“Working together we can do more,” Wendy says.
“The GenAI Lab not only helps us put tech in the hands of our lawyers, our clients, and our colleagues but also helps us develop a better understanding of GenAI, enabling us to adopt it in ways that elevate our profession.”

Lifting the veil on Gen AI
Over 80 legal professionals attended the Kickoff on January 31st, with representatives hailing from the finance, tech, and health industries.
“It was one of the most exciting events we’ve ever led,” said Josef COO Sam Flynn.
“There were no pitches nor any demos because we know they’re overdone and people are tired of them! Our aim was to encourage people to experiment, to see what their legal teams can really achieve with GenAI.”
Joining the kickoff alongside our very own Josef Q were providers AltaClaro, DraftWise, Everchron, Priori, and Winnow.
Sam said, “It was a perfect way to kickstart the Lab and we couldn’t have pulled it all off without the help of Orrick’s Wendy Butler Curtis and Vedika Mehera, and Gunderson Dettmer’s Joe Green. A huge thank you to everyone for pooling together. We did it!”
