Josef launches Rapid Ingestion Engine for legal workflows

AI for ingestion; determinism for output — and the “death of the intake form”

Josef today announced its Rapid Ingestion Engine, a new capability that uses AI to turn unstructured business inputs into structured workflow data — so legal teams can keep outputs deterministic and controlled.

Legal teams have spent years perfecting templates and workflow logic.

The persistent bottleneck sits earlier: translating messy commercial reality into the structured inputs those templates require. In practice, that still looks like long intake forms, manual extraction, and back-and-forth.

“Most teams are applying AI at the wrong point in the workflow — the output,” said Tom Dreyfus, CEO and Co-founder of Josef.

“The right place is ingestion. AI should read the mess that arrives before the template runs. The output should remain deterministic, controlled, and reliable. That’s the death of the intake form.”

What it does

Josef’s Rapid Ingestion Engine accepts unstructured inputs — including email threads, meeting notes, term sheets, and draft summaries — and:

  • extracts key commercial terms into structured workflow
  • flags gaps and prompts only for missing information
  • routes approvals using Legal-owned logic
  • generates controlled outputs from Legal-approved templates
“AI should read the mess that arrives before the template runs. The output should remain deterministic, controlled, and reliable.”
– Tom Dreyfus, Co-founder & CEO, Josef

What this looks like in practice

A marketing team negotiates a sponsorship arrangement: pricing, branding rights, and deliverables are agreed over email. Traditionally, that thread is forwarded to Legal to sit in a queue — or the marketing lead is asked to complete a 40-field intake form pulling information from the same email chain.

With the Rapid Ingestion Engine, the marketing lead uploads the email thread. Josef extracts the commercial terms, maps them into the sponsorship agreement workflow, flags gaps, and prompts for any missing fields. The user reviews and confirms, and the agreement is generated instantly from Legal’s approved template — with standards intact.

“UX expectations have changed,” said Sam Flynn, COO and Co-founder of Josef.

People don’t want to retype information they already have. We’re using AI to make ingestion effortless while keeping outputs deterministic — so the business experience feels modern without Legal giving up control.”
